I hadnot enabled the lo interface in /etc/network/interfaces
The reason being that after a very bumpy dist-upgrade process to wheezy from
squueze networking broke due to networking-manager removal and i setup
manually without being awere that programs need lo ! (why do
Basket starts with sudo! Also my system wheezy after a dist-upgrade in which i
have many issues and aptitude remove many packages that i had to reinstall .
Basket is one of them.
No i wasnt able to start it even once (with the sudo exception that's
working).
Also i have very slow other KDE apps

While trying to open articles of soeme feeds annoying dialogs start appearing

If i choose an image viewer i'll see the icon but the problem

opensuse with KDE 4.3.x
kubuntu 10.4with KDE 4.4.1
and user list in default non-themed login screen displays ok.

George i tried to restart kdm but it puts me in a CLI text-mode login.
But dont think that was the problem since i restarted the machine 2-3 times
and problem persists.
Also i check the /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc but user list was true.
Try to add more than one users and check again if you have time.
Ok. the problem disappeared now.
I guess is due to incremental upgrades of packages that created some
strange
behavior when combining various non-tested versions of packages in
squeeze.

I wanted to add that i have a greek locale-enviroment.
The problem appears when i drop a folder from my account's foldel to the
desktop in order to create the folder-view widget.
Then the widget will have as title 'Προσωπικός Φακελος(personal folder
in greek)'-Folden name.
