This patch still applies cleanly and I fixed all the issues that were brought
up with it many months ago already.
It's in git format-patch format and can be applied with "git am".
So, can someone please merge it please?

When man invokes /usr/bin/pager to view a man page, it passes the less
-s option to squeeze blank lines.
It should probably not do that, because /usr/bin/pager may not be less
and may not support the -s option.
