Umh, I have tried reproducing your bug, both under /tmp and under a
different directory, and with different kinds of permissions.
The command was executed with /root as the current working directory by
user root.
Please, if you are able to reproduce this bug in any other machine,
tell me.
Is i possible to get rid of the messages about ssl that are displayed,
such as ssl_okay=0 and so on ?
not currently. I see those are part of progress messages during the
verification process.

I have another bug-report that's a problem in gnutls (or how lynx is
using it), which I _may_ be able to resolve.
I just tried to open the same URL

with elinks2, which also uses gnutls, and it fails, too.
So, perhaps the problem
It may be - the last one that I investigated turned out to be a
defect in gnutls (which its developers knew about for some time),
for which I thought I might find a workaround, but only by debugging
gnutls itself.
This might be the same case - I'll dig into it on the weekend to see.

All of the messages have a delay time, which is configurable in lynx.cfg
This one is delaysecs (which appears to be misspelled in lynx.cfg as
debugsecs), and can be set on the command-line as -delay.
But it defaults to zero, so it seems that not displaying them would
not make it faster,

That works quite well actually.
I just replaced --with-gnutls=/usr by --with-ssl=/usr, built the package

You can try:
$ amixer set PC Beep 0 modprobe -r pcspkr
With the level to 0 but the control to ON, there is the ugly noise (with
module removed from kernel). Turning off the control stops the noise
$ amixer set Beep 0 amixer set Speaker on modprobe -r pcspkr
I get a smooth and low beep.
ON my system there is no Beep control, only a PC Beep control. And no
Speaker control at all... Is this normal ?
So all independent from pcspkr. Must be an issue from snd-hda,
though.
