thanks for your prompt reply,
the user is already a member of the dialout group.
$ groups kie
kie : kie dialout cdrom floppy sudo audio dip video plugdev netdev
The same problem occurs if I try running the program as root.

The thumbnails of the CR2 files from Canon PowerShot G1 X have the wrong
colours.
The colours are appear orange/yellow and blue.
Thumbnail colours always appear incorrect for these files.

hugin crashes on startup after showing the splashscreen.
I used the version from testing and then tried the experimental version
with exactly the same result.
Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :0.0.
yes glxgears runs...

please remove the 2 last but one lines as detailed above from
/usr/share/emacs/22.3/leim/quail/CTLau.el.gz
and
/usr/share/emacs/22.3/leim/quail/CTLau-b5.el.gz
to fix the ctlau and ctlaub cantonese input method.

-method chinese-b5-tsangchi is working btw
small command bar below main buffer shows lots of text instead
of normal choices and no chinese can be produced in the main
buffer window.
chinese-ctlau and chinese-ctlaub input methods are working on
emacs21 which is also installed
