Interesting bug. It occurs on new venvs, but goes away as soon as I
start poking at it. And I can't figure out why...
I don't see anything like this reported upstream, so I assume it's
something to do with the de-vendored pip

With a downgrade, the chrome://extensions/ page works again.

It's not the correct backwards-compatible fix, though. So not proposing this
upstream.
Hi Jonas (2020.12.27_10:20:11_-0700)
Upstream closed their bug, saying it was probably fixed with:

Hrm, never seen that. Are you still able to reproduce this?
Maybe try a --reset-app-data?

3. Removed the (Python 2.4 compatibility) vendored simplejson module. It
can't be parsed python 3.9, which breaks tooling in a couple of
places. Simpler to remove it.
I'll upload this to NEW, shortly.

FWIW, the new upstream 4.9.0 supports typescript 4
https://github.com/xtermjs/xterm.js/releases/tag/4.9.0
But it also comes with new dependencies, and packaging work.

It also probably shouldn't need the dev package...

I have a local Debian mirror on a buster machine that I occasionally
build packages on too. Pretty stock Debian nginx config.
Recently I noticed repeated sbuild failures during package installation,
due to connection resets. Can't reproduce with apt
It's a lot of time that I don't use rednotebook anymore, so I don't have a
backup of the old .rednotebook folder to test the bug.

Yeah, I applied it as-is first, and then followed up with the fixes,
