Subject: bind9 dies with assertion failure (adb.c:914)
Package: bind9
Version: 1:9.3.4-2etch1
Severity: normal
This morning bind9 stopped (process wasn't running). I found this in the
logs:
Oct 8 11:05:49 hostname named[4941]: adb.c:914: INSIST((((namehook) != ((void *)0)) && (((const
isc__magic_t *)(namehook))->magic == ((('a') << 24 | ('d') << 16 | ('N') << 8 |
('H')))))) failed
Oct 8 11:05:49 hostname named[4941]: exiting (due to assertion failure)
I'm sorry to say that I don't know what triggered this assertion but I
haven't seen this before so at least it seems rare.
(this assertion doesn't seem to match any of the other reported
assertions)
bind is authorative for an internal foreward zone and some internal
reverse zones. It is also used as a caching resolver (server also running
a mailserver so a lot of lookups are taking place).
