That's an interesting idea. I don't have much time right now to look into it
in details, but if someone wants to try it out and see if it works, I'll be

There is a new feature of dpkg called triggers, which can watch for
changes to specific files.
Can you have ccache make use of this to find out which gcc's are
installed, and only create symlinks for versions that exist?
