Hi, even a newer upstream version is available.
An ubuntu package is already here:

I could spend some time updating the debian package starting from it,
and removing the ubuntu specific bits, if someone reviews my changes

I've sent in several small patches from the Ubuntu packages that are
applicable to Debian (in my opinion). I'd really like to see a long time
goal of the delta reduced to nothing, and I'm willing to keep sending small
snippets so that they can get merged.
