I finally got a chance to get to this machine. I built a new kernel.
2.6.30, I upgraded everything to the squeeze/testing level. I installed
firmware-linux again. The problem is still there. X won't start with

When I install firmware-linux, it breaks xserver-xorg-video-radeon. X freezes

when starting. There are no errors in the X log file it just freezes when
starting. My graphics card is ATI radeon R100
