I had the same problem on i386. I installed libc6 2.7-4 and findutils 4.2.31-3, which worked fine. I upgraded libc6 to 2.11.2-7. xargs broke with the same error message: xargs: xargs.c:445: main: Assertion `bc_ctl.arg_max = (131072-2048)' failed. Upgrading findutils to 4.4.2-1+b1 fixed the
