I confirm the issue on my newly configured Debian squeeze box.
Since there is a workaround (uninstall xserver-xorg-video-vmware)
it probably is okay to leave this at normal severity level, but
the unimpeded use of X --configure is quite important these days to
obtain the core of a useful X

xorg.conf file and after sets some values in this file,
the command fails when loading the vmware driver, in i386
