I had this problem with Emacs 24.2, AUCTeX 11.87-1, and the fix
mentioned above didn't work for me. After a bit of digging I
discovered that the pattern for excluding things that aren't actually
files needs to be extended: first,

Hi guys,
I had the sam problem on the Ubuntu (TexLive 2009)
and yes the problem is with parenthesis in the pdftex version information
this little change seems to fix it
in the tex-buf.el file in the function TeX-parse-error
just add one simple when so that when the filename is TexLive
