Package: procps Version: 1:3.3.2-3 Severity: normal Hello,
the new output for top uses "Mb" and "Kb" to abbreviate "Megabyte" and "Kilobyte". This is incorrect, see for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabyte "It is commonly abbreviated as Mbyte or MB (compare Mb, for the megabit)." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabit "The megabit has the unit symbol Mbit or Mb." Small "b" means "bits". "Megabyte" should be abbreviated as "MB", "Kilobyte" as "KB". Also from what I see the values beside that label seem to measure RAM in base-binary units, in which case "MiB" and "KiB" should be considered instead: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mebibyte But I will make no statement about MB vs MiB here, this bug report is only about the fact that using "Mb" and "Kb" as done currently, is definitely not correct and should be changed. --- System information. --- Architecture: amd64 Kernel: Linux 3.2.7-rm1+ Debian Release: wheezy/sid 990 testing wheezy.natsu.romanrm.ru 500 unstable www.emdebian.org 500 unstable sid.natsu.romanrm.ru 500 maverick ppa.launchpad.net 1 experimental experimental.natsu.romanrm.ru --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ==================================-+-================== libc6 (>= 2.11) | 2.13-26 libncurses5 (>= 5.5-5~) | 5.9-4 libncursesw5 (>= 5.6+20070908) | 5.9-4 libprocps0 (>= 1:3.3.2-1) | 1:3.3.2-3 libtinfo5 | 5.9-4 lsb-base (>= 3.0-10) | 3.2-28.1 initscripts | 2.88dsf-22 Recommends (Version) | Installed =========================-+-=========== psmisc | 22.15-2 Package's Suggests field is empty. -- With respect, Roman ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Stallman had a printer, with code he could not see.
