The problem is that vpnc does not pass the IPSEC target network values to
vpnc-script.

it seems I'm unable to properly support vpnc, and should probably pass
the package on to somebody else...

following configuration value in /etc/vpnc/default.conf:
Target networks network/netmask
In jessie, not only this has been changed to
