Package: tar Version: 1.27.1-2+deb8u1 Severity: wishlist Dear maintainer
tar manual says about --numeric-owner: "always use numbers for user/group names" I find this difficult to understand. Is that option usefull for both archiving and extracting? If the option is not used, on archiving, are both uid and login name stored in the tar file? I'll find the information somehow. But I believe it should be part of the manual. At least a line, please. Thank you for taking care of tar :) -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.7 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: sysvinit (via /sbin/init) Versions of packages tar depends on: ii libacl1 2.2.52-2 ii libc6 2.19-18+deb8u7 ii libselinux1 2.3-2 tar recommends no packages.
