Here are the steps, starting from a working configuration: 1) Activate MergedFB mode in xorg.conf (see xorg.conf excerpt below) 2) Restart X server 3) Log into KDE, choose a different background for each screen (but keeping Settings for Desktop on All Desktops) 4) Deactivate MergedFB 5) Restart X server 6) Log into KDE, try to set wallpaper. Nothing happens. Looking at the faulty kdesktoprc that remains after these steps, I have a [Background Common], [Desktop0], and [DesktopMScreenN] for all combinations of M=0,1,2,3, N=0,1. AFAICT wws will produce iso8859-1 characters which are then rendered weird since apache 2.2 pretends its utf-8. I think the config file should then contain something like Location /wws AddDefaultCharset Off /Location I confirm that the AddDefaultCharset feature of Apache should be disabled for Sympa web interface, since web pages use the charset associated to the current language. Things change in the release to come, because utf-8 will be used for all HTML pages. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#408220: iceape-browser: Composer declares wrong encoding
Package: iceape-browser Version: 1.0.7-2 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** Expectation: Composer declares the encoding in HTML files in which it is saved. Rationale: Doing otherwise is misleading and will cause misinterpretation of the HTML file. Example that this is not the case: I start Iceape. The SeaMonkey page appears. On the left corner I click on the composer icon. A Composer window appears. I type the euro symbol and see it appearing. Then I select File - Save and Change Character Encoding. A dialog appears. I enter Euro (without quotes) for the title and select Unicode (UTF-8) for the character encoding (which is preselected, by the way). I click on OK. A GTK file saving dialog appears. I select the directory to save the file and set Euro.html for the file name. I click on the save icon. The Euro.html is really created. It is really an UTF-8 file (checked by isutf8) consisting of the following sequence of characters: !DOCTYPE html PUBLIC -//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN html head meta content=text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 http-equiv=content-type titleEuro/title /head body € /body /html The problem: the encoding declared in the file is ISO-8859-1 while the file itself is UTF-8. If I open Euro.html in Navigator, garbage is displayed (as expected due to the wrong encoding declared). I think tis bug is important because users of Composer knowing nothing of HTML will not understand why their pages become garbage in browsers. Note that Composer exlicitly claims to require no knowledge of HTML. Bug#408159: LOAD DATA INFILE from a pipe now broken
Hi, LOCAL means that the local client reads the pipe, and then sends the data to the server, as opposed to the server reading the data. Due to the qualities involved this is not that practical. It looks unlikely that a fix for this will be in Etch, which is a shame :( -- Jon Dowland -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#400054: debmirror: failed sha1sum check, removing
Yaroslav Halchenko [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: dists/experimental/contrib/binary-ia64/Packages.diff/2006-02-14-1317.14.gz failed md5sum check Those files seem to be corrupted or missing in the debian archive. I get the same errors from ftp.de.debian.org. I patched debmirror to consider errors in pdiff files as small errors so they can be ignored now. You can use --pdiff=none for now to ignore them completly. Use of uninitialized value in addition (+) at /usr/bin/debmirror line 1506. This is caused by adding the size of the above file, which doesn't exist. Apart from the message it does no harm. Bug#339464: xlibmesa-dri: Add mach64 dri support
The support to Xorg was added at the time (it wasn't compiled in originally). At the moment as far as I know DRI doesn't work again though as the version of the kernel module from dri.freedesktop.org requires a newer version of Xorg than debian carries. That is a different bug/feature request so the original bug can be closed. Hi, Thijs, There is no warranty that the first word in that entry matches the hash name, and never was such warranty. I think we considered the current ispell-dicts-list.txt format OK in http://bugs.debian.org/283948 where you and us discussed how to implement this plain text file. If the squirrelmail spellchecker plugin uses only ispell, I suggest you to call ispell-wraper instead, using the long name, see this example $ echo asdegf | ispell-wrapper -l --language=american \(American English\) asdegf Note that you need to escape parenthesis. I expect something like ispell-wrapper -a --language=... being useful for you (however, never tested it in a double pipe). Note that using ispell-wrapper will also set some important things that plain use of -d will not do. I agree with Rafael that this is not a bug in dictionaries-common, which just writes its available (and accurate) info in an easy to read form. So, I plan to close this bug report unless you convince me of the opposite. -- Agustin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you want to change anything just say that syncookies are deprecated and shouldn't be used anymore. It's been two weeks and no actual arguments were voiced for or against my proposed patch. tcp.7 contains bad FUD about syncookies, which is a disgrace. Nothing shipped by Debian should contain FUD. See the wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syncookies which also says that 'The use of SYN Cookies does not break any protocol specifications, and therefore should be compatible with all TCP implementations.' This is actually a well-known fact in the security community, which makes the presence of the FUD in tcp.7 all the more appalling. If you have any more technical concerns, I can refer you to peer-reviewed papers that deal with anti-synflood mechanisms. You won't find any that support the view that '[syncookies are] a violation of the TCP protocol.' No arguments have been brought forth to support this view in this thread either. Please, remove the FUD. I'd be happy to help, so if you don't like my proposed text, tell me how it should be different (e.g. shorter); but let's not wait another three years, shall we? Would it be better to add the new font directories to the fontconfig configuration instead of symlinking the files to /var? I can do so, but the symlinking seems simpler. defoma tracks fonts by filename, so its possible for fonts to be scattered anywhere in the filesystem. How does the fontconfig searching/caching mechanism scale? For example, a naive implementation would add 40+ dirs to cover the fonts from tetex-extra alone. Is this ok? defoma's priority mechanism for resolving FontName conflicts (in fontconfig's case) also relies on using the symlinks to communicate that information to fontconfig - but I suspect noone actually cares about that feature so we can lose that.. Aside: are the cache files for dir directories always written to /var/cache/fontconfig/ now? Oh, and we need to use --force for all directories; updating font files won't regenerate cache files otherwise. Sure, I thought any change to the font files would trigger an mtime check somewhere so we wouldn't need --force, but I guess you don't stat every file. Just replace the fc-cache line in fontconfig.defoma with this: Latest patch: system('fc-cache', '--force', $PkgDir); system('fc-cache', keys(%fccache_dirs)) if %fccache_dirs; We now want: system('fc-cache', '--force', $PkgDir, keys(%fccache_dirs)); -- - Gus
