Bug#206684: missed one legacy sentence...

2009-05-04 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

it seems we missed on legacy advice in the fix #206684:

See http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-binary.html#s-maintscripts and
there the last but one paragraph of 3.9.1, which #206684 does not suggest to
change:

--quote-
If a package has a vitally important piece of information to pass to the user
(such as don't run me as I am, you must edit the following configuration
files first or you risk your system emitting badly-formatted messages), it
should display this in the config or postinst script and prompt the user to
hit return to acknowledge the message. Copyright messages do not count as
vitally important (they belong in /usr/share/doc/package/copyright); neither
do instructions on how to use a program (these should be in on-line
documentation, where all the users can see them).
--quoteend

I suggest to s/it should display this in the config or postinst script and
prompt the user to hit return to acknowledge the message./it inform the user

Bug#526675: FTBFS with GCC 4.4: declaration... shadows template parm

2009-05-04 Thread Mikael Zayenz Lagerkvist
I'm not sure where to send this, or if anyone is interested, but
attached is a patch that fixes the problem. It will be fixed upstream
for the next release of Gecode.

For further consideration, I'm not positive that this is an actual
problem with gecode-3.0.2. The naming-conflict only occurs in the
header at the function declarations, in the implementation file at the
definitions the function parameters are named share instead of shr
avoiding a naming problem. I'm not a C++ expert though, so I don't
know what the correct behavior is.

Kind regards,

It seems that one needs to select all folders like that.

Btw, evolution help says (about the “Automatically syncronize remote
mail locally”):

If you check this option, Evolution fetches the headers as well as the
body of the message simultaneously. In this case, the time taken to open
a message is comparatively less. In addition, you can download the mail
for reading them offline, when you have checked this option.

That means *only* when the message is indeed selected/opened, not in
other cases. To synchronize all mails in a folder without opening all of
them, I think you should go with the folder properties (at least I do
that here).

Hmmm. Would it be a good idea to set ~/.evolution to 700 perhaps? Or
just adopt a restrictive umask for the whole of evolution (mail being
a rather more sensitive application than most)?

Many site policies are for home directories to be world or group
readable, and trusting users not to be stupid with their permissions.
Unfortunately this breaks down when the applications themselves are
 stupid.

This affects upstream as well, as verified by several installations of
deadrat and the like installed over many years at work.

Are you saying that if you change .evolution permissions to 700, they
are set back to 744 after evolution run? Because they aren't here.

If you say that evolution should create folder/files with more
restrictive defaults, I disagree. evolution should just use what the
current umask is. If you want it to another value, just set it in you
environment before running evolution (isn't that the purpose of umask
anyway?). Multi-user systems running evolution aren't that frequent, I
guess (multi-user systems aren't that frequent anyway, these days) and
you can adjust the permissions for your ~ and .evolution in a lot of
different ways. No need to add complexity to that huge stack of code.

Bug#396954: Bug# 396954: mplayer: please also provide mencoder

2009-05-04 Thread Andres Mejia
On Monday 04 May 2009 01:01:12 Reinhard Tartler wrote:
 Andres Mejia mcita...@gmail.com writes:
Is this bug going to be fixed or should this bug be tagged wontfix?

I don't understand why mencoder is not included in Debian. Debian has the
ffmpeg encoder in main. Why is mencoder not distributed as well?

AFAIUI, mplayer was only accepted into debian under the provision that
 mencoder is removed.

However, things have changed a bit. The objections with the encoders can
be adressed in the same way as in ffmpeg, so IMO it should make no
problem to introduce mencoder into debian proper, under the provision
that the same encoder policy as in ffmpeg is applied to mplayer as well.

So Debian may at the least carry a stripped version of mencoder. This still
makes me unhappy. :-(

 See also bug #522373.

I've read the bug. It's been a little over a month now and no response. Perhaps
a discussion should be started at debian-legal, debian-devel, and/or debian-
policy.

I too think there should be clarification on what to do for concerns about any
and all patents, not just mpeg related ones. It's not clear at all, and the
only
place where the word patent is mentioned in debian-policy is section 2.2.3 (I
did a site search for patent through google).

I think debian-policy should be revised to cover topics on patents, or a
relevant General Resolution should be proposed.

I can see the following message in one of the tab at the bottem of the

down, I can see a message with

I cannot remember that I set up search folders. But I have Important

Please tell me what other information is needed. Is the stack trace

Bug#503336: New version available

2009-05-04 Thread Ivan Vučica
2009/5/3 Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer perezme...@gmail.com

Ivan: a new version of kopete (4.2.2-1) is available. Could you please
 check
that the bug still applies? (I can find the services sub menu, but GTalk
doesn't provide transports, so I can not test it myself).

You can use non-GTalk server just for transport services; you don't even
have to have an account on that server. For example, jaim.at. However if you
do use jaim.at or msn.jaim.at or some other transport server with Google, be
aware that it'll spam your account with all your other-service contacts,
which you probably don't want to do.

Luckily, Jabber provides extremely simple account registration, so I think
it should be no problem to register a test account on jaim.at :)

Regarding the bug, yes, apparently I can see the Services submenu now.
However restart of Kopete is required for the new virtual account to
appear in the account list on bottom of the window. Also none of the
transport-specific contacts appear. I have tested with MSN and ICQ
transports at Jaim.at. When using Psi, at least my ICQ contacts do appear
(and I get asked for confirmation to authorize adding them to my contact
list).

Are you sure your jabber server provides transports? (I don't know).

Yes, I previously tested with Psi (a specialized jabber client).

Yes, I'm saying they should be created with more restrictive defaults.

evolution should just use what the
current umask is.

Family machines? (eg, the machine I found this bug on. I myself wouldn't
use evolution or indeed desktop environments if I was forced at gunpoint,
but that's what mum uses. In desktop environments, good luck setting a
sensible umask.)

What kind of complexity is

int main(...) {
   umask(0700);
   ...
}
?

Since mail (and web browser profiles - I believe firefox does this, and
opera certainly does) is about the only thing of this kind of sensitivity,
it should explicitly set mail permissions.

More sensible MTAs like alpine and mutt do this (indeed, alpine warns you
if you have silly permissions).

Bug#526874: Dependency error in Etch volatile

2009-05-04 Thread richard lucassen
Package: libclamav-dev
Version: 0.95.1+dfsg-0volatile2
Severity: serious

There's a problem in the volatile Etch reository. When updating
libclamav to the newest volatile version, I get this:

The following packages have been kept back:
  libclamav-dev

An apt-get dist-upgrade gives the same message. However, an apt-get
install libclamav-dev gives:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libclamav-dev: Depends: libtommath-dev but it is not installable

Well, there's the problem, libtommath is only available in Lenny and
higher. An apt-get -b source libtommath from the testing repository
gives dependency errors (debhelper 6)

Libclamav-dev is needed to build the latest version of havp (a scanning
proxy), which is (unfortunately) not in the volatile project (in which
it should be IMHO ;-)

Bug#526854: hal: HAL should not require PolicyKit

I think that it is a bad thing that HAL started depending on PolicyKit in the
latest versions. PolicyKit introduces a whole new, parallel security system,
and it does not seem to be well-known how it works or how to properly
administer it (I, for one, certainly don't know how it works, at least).

Therefore, it may introduce security holes unknown to the maintainer of some
systems. In particular seeing how HAL is required by so many things (GNOME and
KDE, for example), it may even install PolicyKit without the administrator
knowing about it (installing GNOME or KDE pulls in so many other packages
anyway that it might be hard to spot PolicyKit among them; I almost missed it
 in the latest dist-upgrade).

I have not researched it in detail yet, so I don't really know if it's a good

So you are basing your request on FUD?

Well, one does never get what one wants, now the shutdown button is
greyed out and does not respond to anything.

Is there some magic setup root has to do to make that button work again,
or is it simply not supported in gnome 2.26 to shutdown the computer
 from a running session?
ii gnome-session 2.22.3-3 The GNOME 2 Session Manager

This should be fixed in our SVN. I’d appreciate if you could test the
new version of the patch, but alternatively, simply upgrading
gnome-session to the 2.26 version should do the trick.

No problem when setting LC_ALL=C, and I could not find a parameter in

Bug#526878: egroupware-core sets open_basedir which disables hook_config_validate.inc.php (egroupware-wiki) sanity check

2009-05-04 Thread Christoph Pfeiffer
Package: egroupware-wiki
Version: 1.4.004-2.dfsg-4.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Package: egroupware-core (1.4.004-2.dfsg-4.1)
 Version: 1.4.004-2.dfsg-4.1

 therein the file apache.conf

http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/egroupware/trunk/debian/etc/apache.conf?revision=10687view=markup

An Installation of the egroupware-suite brings up a problem in the
setup of an upload-dir for the wiki:

 Package: egroupware-wiki (1.4.004-2.dfsg-4.1)
 Version: 1.4.004-2.dfsg-4.1

 therein is the sanity check:

   if ($settings['upload_dir'])
   {
   if (!is_dir($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].$settings['upload_dir']) ||
!file_exists($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].$settings['upload_dir'].'/.'))
   {
$GLOBALS['config_error'] = 'Directory does not exist, is
not
readable by the webserver or is not relative to the document root!';
   }
   }

which always puts an error out, for the $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] is
(always) outside of the open_basedir settings in the apache.conf (ln
-fs ../../egroupware/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/egroupware).

from the apache.conf:

php_admin_value open_basedir
/usr/share/egroupware:/var/lib/egroupware:/tmp:/usr/share/php

workaround: adding the actual SERVER DocumentRoot to the
.../egroupware/apache.conf

php_admin_value open_basedir
/usr/share/egroupware:/var/lib/egroupware:/tmp:/usr/share/php:{$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']}

in our case /var/www

Bug#526826: rhythmbox: wrong encoding when browsing the content of a mt-daapd server

All strings from song metadata from mt-daapd seem to be shown with a wrong

This is the corresponing screenshot of the rhythmbox GUI:

 http://tikei.de/rhythmbox.png

This happens with the whole music archive. The song metadata is shown
correctly when browsing the music directly from the filesystem, without
 mt-daapd.

How is mt-daapd configured wrt. filenames encoding? If it is assuming
they are in ISO8859-1(5), this would lead to this exact result.

I would not assume the debugging code is correct; there may actually be
a bug here if the original filename is shown.

Bug#523339: Problem exists in unstable too

Hi!

The problem reported here also exists in unstable. At each openswan
package upgrade, a new key is generated:

Warning: there is already a RSA key in /etc/ipsec.secrets.
Creating an additional one.
Successfully created a plain openswan RSA keypair.

I don't understand the logic behind there is already a key, let's
create a new one. Why would a new key needed if there is already one?
My proposition would be to not create a new one if a key already exists.

Thanks.

hi,

i was doing some digging into this issue myself, and found that the patch
from the munin BR doesn't work (as mentioned in the munin BR, something more
needs to be done wrt unpacking the sockaddr_in's).

i stumbled across a more complete patch that someone else had thrown together,
though it was against a slightly older version of the codebase. so i've
updated and massaged the code a bit, and have a patch that works for my
purposes (attached). further comments can be found in the patch contents.

Bug#526886: kvirc website, upstream 3.4.2

2009-05-04 Thread Nicos Gollan
Package: kvirc
Version: 2:3.4.0-3
Severity: wishlist

The Debian packages of kvirc have been stuck at 3.4.0 for a long time now.
The most recent upstream release is 3.4.2 (which is also supposed to be the
last kvirc release in the KDE/Qt 3 line).

Another issue is the website. The package currently lists it as
http://kvirc.net which has recently expired. http://www.kvirc.de still seems
to be available.

Bug#526823: [glibc] DNS problems with version = (2.9-8) - Can you provide i386 packages for testing?

2009-05-04 Thread Sedat Dilek
Hi Aurelien,

since upgrading to glibc (2.9-8) and higher I have serious DNS problems.
Using OpenDNS dns-servers [1] and adding single-request to
/etc/resolv.conf did *not* help.

For amd64 arch you provided deb-files, can you offer packages for i386?

Is it possible to re-add glibc (2.9-7) back to the mirrors or give a
web-link where I can download it?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

Hi Jose,

I did check upstream and found #139293, but decided that since it refers
specifically to identity assignment at subfolder creation, it's not the same
problem - though possibly the same cause. Upstream #37198 looks closer, but
is marked resolved as a duplicate of #88556, which it isn't to my eyes.

I'm not familiar with KDE bug etiquette - should I re-open #37198?

Bug#526892: spider: Should this package be replaced with xpat2?

2009-05-04 Thread Steve Cotton
Package: spider
Severity: normal

Spider is the name for a type of solo card game, it's the name
that people playing it with physical cards will be used to.

Debian has both spider and xpat2. xpat2 upstream is a fork of
spider after spider upstream stopped (in 1990).
Both have similar UI and dependencies (the X Athena toolkit)

spider has the higher popcon (150 votes vs 40)
spider is smaller (442k vs 1470k)

xpat2 -rules Spider is equivalent to the spider package.
(but choosing Spider via the in-game menu is different -
http://bugs.debian.org/526888 )

Spider has two update your dependencies bugs, one of which has
just been raised to RC, so it seems a good time to ask whether
the packages should merge. I suggest keeping a package with the
name spider (as that's well-known), but make it a script to run
xpat2.

Bug#487638: I think this fixes the problem....

2009-05-04 Thread Gijs Molenaar

Hi all,

I made this patch for Ubuntu Jaunty, but I can't detect any big changes
between this version and the debian version. It modifies the include
paths, replaces the img_convert function and adds extra linking stuff to
the libraries. I'm not very good with Makefiles and C, but it seems to
fix the problem.

Bug#526882: ikiwiki: needs versioned dependency on python-support

2009-05-04 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Package: ikiwiki
Version: 3.10
Severity: serious

As Ikiwiki uses python-support it needs to use ${python:Depends} to depend on
the right version of python-support. At the moment ikiwiki fails to install
in testing as it was built with python-support 1.0. Also ikiwiki uses
/usr/sbin/update-python-modules in postinst, so it needs this dependency
anyway.

I've applied the patch, thanks.

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/asneeded.xml has a verbose treatise on
the subject, the case at the bottom of the page being the relevant
 failure.

I can't say I'm a fan of --as-needed, but the patch does no harm and is
an improvement. For schroot, we only link the specific libraries we are
going to use, so it will not actually have any effect.

Hello cdebootstrapers,

I think maintainers can now add the jaunty suite in the

It works like a charm here.

Thank you for your patch(es).

I haven't looked at the new upstream versions at all yet.

A quick review shows that something python related have been added to qzion,

It does look like you don't in any way in your patches honour the debian

If you are intereseted in comaintain qzion and qedje, you are most welcome.

Bug#526349: elinks: FTBFS on i386 auto build

2009-05-04 Thread Y Giridhar Appaji Nag
On 09/05/01 13:24 +0300, Kalle Olavi Niemitalo said ...
We have AsciiDoc 7.1.2 configuration files in the ELinks source
tree in order to lock the input syntax against AsciiDoc upgrades
(Debian bug 491820) or user modifications of /etc/asciidoc.
The AsciiDoc User Guide recommends bundling the asciidoc script
too (under Shipping stand-alone AsciiDoc source) but I had
previously assumed I could rely on the script remaining
compatible with old config files. So I'll now add the script
there, and Debian can then replace the asciidoc build-dependency
 with some version of python.

Thank you, that will help.

This change will go in the elinks-0.12 and master branches.
Do you need it in elinks-0.11 as well?

No, unless there is a security fix we will not update 0.11.4 in stable
(also, elinks 0.11.4 builds using asciidoc 8.2.7 in Debian -- both in
stable in case someone wants to build it in lenny).

Cheers,

Giridhar

Bug#526895: libdevmapper-dev: Missing dependency on libselinux-dev

Package: libdevmapper-dev

Hi,

/usr/lib/pkg-config/devmapper.pc has a
Requires.private: libselinux

As pkg-config, requires those dependencies to be installed in order to
work properly [1][2], you have to add a Depends: libselinux-dev to
libdevmapper-dev. Otherwise, other packages using pkg-config to detect
libdevmapper build flags will ftbfs.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#526896: Missing / broken dependency on uuid-dev/libdevmapper-dev

2009-05-04 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libparted1.8-dev
Version: 1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-11.1
Severity: important

Hi,

libparted.la declares a dependency on uuid and devmapper:
dependency_libs=' -ldl -ldevmapper -luuid'

Yet the package is missing the required Depends.
A package that uses libtool to links against libparted will thus fail to
build if uuid-dev and libdevmapper-dev are not installed.

On the other hand, /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libparted.pc does not list uuid
and devmapper as dependency. So either the pkg-config file is incorrect
or the libtool dependencies were added errorneously.

Either way, this should be fixed (by either stripping -ldevmapper -luuid from
libparted.la or removing libparted.la, or by declaring the missing
Depends).

Cheers,
Michael

git is for GNU Interactive Tools.

You want git as VCS, that is git-core.

It was fixed in the team's svn. (I noticed my mistake a while ago and
corrected it but thanks for pointing it out again).

I have a few extra dependencies to adjust to reflect new elements
available in the toolkit before pushing a new package.

Bug#526897: RM: treecc -- ROM; conceding in name conflict

2009-05-04 Thread Simon Richter
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

there is a name conflict for treecc, which I am conceding as that has the
smallest impact. The other package is due to be uploaded soon with a higher
base version number, so no epoch or other handling will be required.

This removal will also make foundry, currently in NEW waiting for
inclusion into experimental, FTBFS as a build dependency goes away. A new
version that folds treecc into foundry is currently being prepared.

So how can I give you a more detailed report of what the

upgrading xserver-xorg-input-synaptics from 0.14.7~git20070706-3 (lenny) to
1.1.0-1 (sid). Downgrading fixes the problem.

It's a configuration issue, with version 1.1.0 most of the default
values have changed so you will need to explicitly enable some features
in your xorg.conf or hal fdi files.
 See bugs 523581, 513875, 523528 for more.

Yes, enabling those features in the corresponding hal fdi file did the
trick. Setting the options in xorg.conf was simply ignored.

  Description : LongLoops -- a brain-stretching turn-based puzzle or arcade
game

LongLoops is a brain-stretching game in which you must build loops
out of sections of pipe. It's both a fast-thinking action game
and a take-as-long-as-you-like puzzle game. Strategic planning
is essential. Ideal for those who find Tetris(tm) too easy.

LongLoops is inspired by Tetris(tm), but with more mental challenge.
Objects fall from the sky in the time-honoured way, but your job
is now to make loops out of the objects. To score well the loops
must be long ones. You won't get far unless you plan every move,
because mistakes are hard to recover from.

Bug#526899: randomly segfaults when changing tab

Hello,

The GTK version of aptitude randomly segfaults. I cannot find a
reliable way to reproduce this bug. It just happens sometimes when you
don't expect it (let's say according to Murphy's Law :), after a
moment (I would say at least one minute, and following many links from
Dependencies tab or Versions area) and it always happens when there
are several tabs open, and when clicking on one of them to give it the
focus.

Bug#526898: henplus: Interface doesn't startup

2009-05-04 Thread Florent Angebault
Package: henplus
Version: 0.9.7.ds1-2
Severity: important

Launching henplus only prints the help message and exits.
This is a known bug upstream that has been fixed in 0.9.8:

Currently, henplus is totally unusable in Debian testing/unstable due to this

Bug#526807: gnome-panel: shutdown button does not work after upgrade to 2.26

2009-05-04 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi Josselin,

I have removed all autostart files and it worked. Then I added only one
for my own essential programs.

Now it starts, but still the shutdown button is greyed out.
Interestingly, once I saw the button NOT greyed out, but then again
greyed out after logging in. Strange.

Here the current .xsession-errors.

I’d appreciate if you could retry with a gnome-session built with
debugging symbols. It would already give the name of the function.

I didn't find gnome-session-dbg, are there any debug symbols for that,
or do I have to recompile the beast?

Here are the errors of the current start, I assume that it has something
to do with the
Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session file
/home/norbert/.config/metacity/sessions/1079.

these two warnings are really surprising. Could it be that they come
from:
.config/autostart/xsession-start.desktop:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=xsession-start
Exec=/home/norbert/bin/xsession-start
Icon=system-run
Comment=Starting my own essential programs
But I have added the startup link using gnome itself, and it works, I
mean the respective script is executed.

Bug#526902: support for reminder directories

2009-05-04 Thread martin f krafft
Package: wyrd
Version: 1.4.4-1
Severity: wishlist

If the file passed to remind is a directory, it uses all *.rem files
therein. Wyrd won't:

  piper:~|master|% wyrd ~/.remind

  Caught error at toplevel:
  Sys_error(/home/madduck/.remind: Is a directory)

I suggest that wyrd should present me with a list of files and let
me choose the one to add new events to, or create a new one.
