Ha, found it - it's just one setting:
XTerm*termName: xterm-debian
The first step to reproduce can be changed to:
xrdb -remove xrdb -merge rxvt-bug.Xresources rxvt
even with that resource setting I cannot reproduce it. And that's why
I had tagged the bug 'unreproducible' -
