For the ARM issue, using http://people.debian.org/~aurel32/qemu/armel/ I could get squeeze/2.6.32 to work in qemu and iotop works just fine. I tried http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/linux-image-2.6.32-5-orion5x but could not get qemu to boot with it. For the AMD64 issue, that looks very weird
