Bug#698037: can't log in to blogger.com

Fix the #698037 by applying the above patch and have the package
unblocked by the release team. Once the package has been migrated into
testing, package the latest upstream version and upload it into
unstable, you can later repackage it for Wheezy Backports if an
up-to-date version is really that important.

Anything else will just delay Wheezy and we really don't want this :).

I agree, I've just had a first look at the other fix and I'll review it
again tomorrow and decide if it should be RC as well.

Would you mind having a look over the other patch as well?

http://simpleid.koinic.net/trac/ticket/109

combines three patches:

http://simpleid.koinic.net/trac/changeset/563/svn
http://simpleid.koinic.net/trac/changeset/564/svn
http://simpleid.koinic.net/trac/changeset/565/svn

This is difficult to say, but it depends on the seriousness of the bug.
Remember, the bug has to be tagged as serious or worse to be
considered an RC bug.

So, if you really think this bug [1] qualifies as such, please file a
bug report against the simpleid with the appropriate severity. But
please remember to do that only when this justified.

As I said before, I would fix bug #698037 first with a separate upload,
then you may still consider reporting the other issue and fix it with
another upload.

The release team is usually very strict when it comes to unrelated
changes, even if they are just small or cosmetic.

If you have doubts, please get into touch with the release team yourself
and just ask them. You could do that by fixing #698037, file an unblock
request through the pseudo package release.debian.org where you could
ask them if they'd be willing to unblock the above upstream bug fixes as
well in another upload.

We don't want to hassle you too much to support Debian-specific issues.
We just want to make sure Debian users, who choose to use your package,
get the best possible experience.

The only fix in 0.8.2 which may be important is #109
 (http://simpleid.koinic.net/trac/ticket/109), where the relevant patch
 is at http://simpleid.koinic.net/trac/changeset/567/svn. This is
essential for those running PHP on SAPI.

I'm now tracking this in Debian and we'll discuss this.

Close to a release, Debian prefers to make very light changes, e.g. to
build a 0.8.1-2 package containing essential fixes backported from your
newer releases.

Thanks for the prompt feedback on this.

If it meets the requirements for being release-critical, file a bug
report and cherry-pick the fix. However, if the package is not
completely unusable, you shouldn't consider fixing it as the release
 team won't unblock it.

Which will not happen if it's a new upstream version. Unblocks at this

I will look at the upstream bug tracker and see if I can extract a
working patch. Since you seem to be using this software, I'd like to
ask you to test my patch then.

Actually, I am a DD now and could potentially apply the patch on 0.8.1,
but wanted some clarity from release team before uploading anything at all

I also think we need upstream input on this, so I've copied Kelvin on
this email. Kelvin, have you had any personal contact with Debian or
Ubuntu users of SimpleID? Are you aware of other fixes in 0.8.2 or
0.8.3 that really are essential for the Debian package, or 0.8.1 + this
 one patch will be fine?

Bug#698037: can't log in to blogger.com

2013-01-13 Thread Daniel Pocock
Package: simpleid
Version: 0.8.1-10
Severity: serious

This issue has already been tracked and fixed upstream:

   http://simpleid.koinic.net/trac/ticket/119

The crucial issue is summarised in the first paragraph:

The XRDS document delivered by SimpleID is a XRDS-Simple document,
while the OpenID 2.0 specification wants a Yadis file. Yadis uses the
XRD 1.0 file format, not XRDS-Simple.

This is known to impact blogger.com and likely other sites

Upstream has release 0.8.3 which fixes the issue

Requires unblock approval for wheezy
