I have finally removed the obsolete conflict of the mpms with mpm_itk
in 2.4.9-2. But in order for libapache2-mpm-itk to install cleanly, it
seems you also have to add
apache2_switch_mpm prefork
to your postinst before you call enmod.

which prints:
WARNING: MPM_ITK is a third party module that is not part of the
official Apache HTTPD. It has seen less testing than the official MPM
modules.
