Well, my fault here. It seemed that during the upgrade, libruby1.8 wasn't upgraded with ruby1.8 because some -dev packages were blocking it (libreadline-ruby1.8 ruby-dev ruby1.8-dev to be precise), causing irb libraries to be missing. After removing these packages and upgrading libruby1.8, the
