Today is my 3rd day try to install Debian sid with KDE4 in a PC.
I have been using a Install CD of etch. After installing I upgrade the
distro to sid and enable the experimental repositories. I try to install
kde4 using aptitude install -t experimental kde4.

It seems it's well. You don't need non-free or contrib for KDE 4, but that
should not interfere, I think. Dependencies shold be resolved correctly; unless
you didn't dist-upgrade completely and some packages are still requesting
dependencies from stable branch. You can try to add Stable, and

KDE42 doesn't seem to have a desktop shortcut anymore, perhaps it is

Besides the folder view plasmoid you can still have your every day use
programs' icons (they are plasmoids, actually) on your desktop. Just drag the
icons you want from Kickoff or Kmenu and drop them on the desktop and that's

having installed KDE4 from experimental this weekend I noticed two major
problems:
- some components cause insane amounts of wakeups (about 100++/s) which
result in a power consumtion about 1.5 time the consumption if the latest
kde3 packages from unstable.
- regardless of eye candy
drawing problem should go away. As for the power consumption issue, Im
clueless.
