Fully reproducible:
Make new text document.
Insert table, all defaults, just click OK.
Right-click inside of the table, select Caption.
Change Object name to rc2.d.
Click OK. Openoffice will do emergency save and crash.

I can reproduce this with upstream OpenOffice_1_1_2 sources built on linux
sparc, it seems anything with a dot . will make this crash.
