runs great on my potato box with xfree 4.0.2 using the r128 driver
Do you have the video out cable plugged in? If it's plugged in, I can't
start X, but if I unplug it then X works perfectly. Pretty sure I'm using
4.0.3 with r128 driver.

You should be able to run xvidtune in order to get the right modeline.
Set your screen as you like then click on show. This will kick out a
modeline.
Find the modline in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file, in the appropriate
section, that starts with the same desktop size as xvidtune reports.

KDE2 in *.deb format.
You only need kde.tdyc.com if you use potato or something older.

It is hard to find Debian pre-installed. I know Dell will not sell certain
hardware configurations with Linux (Red Hat only). VALinux sells their own
version based on Red Hat.

I would suggest using xf86config as opposed to XF86Setup
Is there anything in between? I find xf86config unbearable because it
forces you to set everything up all over again where XF86Setup can
use the existing setup.

programs. The ./configure command stops at:

without actually changing to 16-bit or 32-bit? I got the Pro
version of my graphics card and finally can go into 24-bit, but am having
this one problem.

my network card is setup right and then just install dhcpcd.
That's it. No need to plug in any IPs or DNS servers or anything like that.

to check the
floppy/harddrive/cdrom drives. Stops before then. I really think it could
be the BIOS. Can anyone confirm and offer some advice/URLs I can try?

It sounds like a strange ATX problem to me. I had similar things happen
before. For
whatever reason the switch on my computer doesn't work to power it up.
My switch does seem to be working. The power stays on and everything, but
it's just
that the computer doesn't seem to be doing what the
