So you can start the service manually, it seems.

Just upgraded wheezy today and noticed that chromium got updated from
version 22 to 24. Can anybody give some hints why this happened (while
in deep freeze)? Debian-devel gives no info about it.

I'm using MATE (GNOME 2 Fork: http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/download) for
quite a while now. And imo it's pretty stable and you won't notice that
much difference compared to squeeze. Give it a try :-)
