X and Netscape key problem

I am having problems with the delete key. I can use an xmodmap to map keycode 22 to 0xff08. Although xterm and emacs cope with this, Netscape does not. Thus I can delete correctly in both xterm and emacs. Has anyone any idea what might be causing this? Is this a known X problem? In

dpkg bug?

I think I have hit a bug in dpkg. I try to install an older version of xlib6g but I get a failure because xlib6g depends on libxaw6. However, I think only the new version of xlib6g (4.0.2) depends on libxaw6. The old version (3.3.6 from potato) does not depend on libxaw6. (Please can someone with

Delete the old verson of base.pm that is installed somewhere in the directories listed at the end of perl -V, but is not part of a debian package. It would also help if you can figure out where that copy of base.pm came from -- did you locally install it by accident, via CPAN, or something?

Hello! I installed netscape-base-4_4.76-1.deb and netscape-base-475_4.75-2.deb to try to get the 4.75 Netscape running. However, I have done this and I do not seem to have a netscape executable any more. Are there other packages I need? If so, what are they?

Is anyone using version 4.6 of Netscape? I get a crash when downloading http://www.ishipress.com/chess.htm Do anyone else get that? If so, can you email me with your version of Netscape? Does Netscape 6 have this problem? I am considering upgrading, particularly if crashes have been fixed.

recording problems

I have a Blaster 16 PCI card. The rec command does not seem to be working - could it be that playing works but recording does not? I use the play command to play back the file but all I get is some clicking noises. Does this seem like a familiar problem? I have a 2.2.17 kernel. Regards Tim

Flushing drives

I have noticed that with my new kernel, I no longer get the following when I shut down my machine: GDT: Flushing all host drivers .. Done I use shutdown -h now What is GDT? Is this message important?

Kernel change

Okay - I have solved the xdm problem. I needed to link PS/2 mouse support into the kernel. I found this out by looking at the output of xdm. I have now configured ipchains as I want including running it automatically on reboot. Thanks for the help.

possible pppd bug

Sometimes when I dial into my ISP, there seems to be a problem getting fully connected. Is this a known pppd bug? The symptom is that the dialup seems to be working but one part of the process just hangs. Any ideas on this?

Where is the best place to add commands to be done by root on booting? Somewhere in /etc/rc I guess.

I have just built a new 2.0.36 kernel but, when I boot it, xdm does not work. I switch back to my standard kernel and everything is okay. Am I forgetting to select something related to X or something? Is there a web page detailing standard kernel things? I am looking at

Mail front end

Hello. I am trying to get Ishmail to work. If Phillip Deackes or anyone else with experience with using Ishmail, can help me, I would be grateful. Ishmail seems to require popclient to get mail but on my system popclient is just a symbolic link to fetchmail which is quite a different program.

Thanks for all the help, people. Your advice about how to fix the clock problem was spot on. Now, another query. If I do a fetchmail and it reports, say, 30 mails, sometimes these mails can be transfered to my spool file in batches. So, I get the first ten and then I have to wait a few minutes

Clock problems

I am having problems with the clock losing time after I have shut my system down overnight. Is this to be expected? I thought that there would some way round this. Or is the only way simply to keep the machine running all the time? Cordially Tim
