I think you can enter
linux single
at the boot: prompt after a reboot. This should allow you to regain control.
You want a console shell? Try the keys:
Ctl-Alt-F(1-6)
This will get you to a tty virtual console, where you can login. The
first virtual console
Ctl-Alt-F1
is probably busy running x (maybe not, if you use xdm).
The others will give a login prompt. If you want back to X, it's
Ctl-Alt-F7...
Well, I am at work today and I do not see any mention of a backpack
driver. Any Ideas?

960824) installed on my box. I tried it with MS-Word 6.0c, MS-Excel and Matlab
4.2c (all 16bit applications) and they run
