Finally solved!!
I had removed the Bios battery [so I thought] {incorrect pictures and
information on the internet #$%@}.
I then removed the real BIOS battery and the problem was solved.
My apologies for running you around a tree. I learned a great amount
from all of you.

The laptop would not boot from the stick. Set the boot parameters to
