I am wondering of an application, which is getting sound only when started as
root. When I start this aapplication as a normal user, sound is not working.

on my recent woody I only get sound when running as root (either running
completely as root or su ing into root from a normal user under x will give
me sound output).

TIA

I'm using alsa for sound, and I had to chmod ugo+rw /dev/dsp to get
