I have an up-to-date Debian Sarge installation
that's been running fine with the 2.4.27-1-386 kernel
for several months on a 5 year-old 250 MHz Compaq
A couple of days ago I tried a 2.6.8-1-386 kernel
via apt-get install

also, das Problem lag darin, dass die Uni ports geschlossen hatte, weil sie
von spamern genutzt wurde, deshalb kann niemand mehr externe smtp server
nutzen.

Ich möchte diald mit dls nutzen ich habe diald mit dem installation
script konfiguriert, pppoe funktioniert mit pon und poff ohne probleme.
diald behaubtet das das Connect Script fehlschlug. Ich habe mit strace
versucht herauszubekommen welches Script es benutzt konnte es allerdings
nicht
Wenn du das dial on demand machen willst brauchst du nur in das skript
dsl-provider
ein deand eintragen.
Ich habe hier eines das sich immer wieder einfählt wenn es offline geht.

You may have a look in your Kernel-Config. Perhaps you have turned on there
APIC or APM or something alike ? Linux won't need the BIOS-Setup.

with this script that turning on debugging helps alot.
Uncomment the DEBUG line to read DEBUG=-v. Then you can watch the system
