Gnome

1999-07-30 Thread Graham Lillico +44 1785 782329
Hi,

I would like to set up the latest version of GNOME on my debian 2.1 (slink)
box. However I do not know what is the best way to go about it. Can someone
please point me to the best way to install gnome without using apt. Would the
it be best for me to use apt (as described on the gnome pages) or are there any
official debian packages for the latest gnome deb's if so what else will need
upgrading.

Regards

Grez

Hi,

I had a similar problem when I used pppconfig, but i just had to do a
'route del default' before I ran pon and it seemed to fix the problem.

Hope this help

Graham.

Hi. I'm having some trouble with my ppp.
It works, but it kind of locks the applications that are trying to get
connected (mozzila, ftp and telnet).
I ran pppconfig. I'm using the default provider. I just type pon + enter and
it connects to my ISP. When I run mozzila, the
window does not appear. It appears only when I type poff, and says, of course,
that cannot find the domain I'm trying to connect.

I put a # in front of the line 'lock' in /etc/ppp/options.

Can anyone help me? I know it's a little thing.

Thanks in advance.
Gaucho.

(I post the same doubt on saturday, at the university, but I think the list
rejected it - my e-mail from there is not
subscribed).

Re: fetchmail woes

The command your looking for is 'chmod 710 /root/.fetchmailrc' NOT chown
which changes the owner of the file.

Hope that helps

Graham.

Hi all,

After a heavy couple of hours reading man fetchmail I came up with this
.fetchmailrc:

set postmaster patrick
poll pop.dial.pipex.com with proto POP3
user maxy36 there with password ngookich is patrick here options
fetchall
warnings 3600

But I get this message when I try to run it.

rhino:~# fetchmail
File /root/.fetchmailrc must have no more than -rwx--x--- (0710)
permissions.

Also, after chown 0710 I get

rhino:~# ls -al .fetchmailrc
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 164 Jul 12 15:51 .fetchmailrc

What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to create a script in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d that will run fetchmail

Also as I have more than on email address but they all end up in the same
pop3 account with my ISP does anyone know how I can use procmail to send
these emails to the correct user? Is anyone cares then I am using
FreeServe as my ISP if thats make any difference at all.

Email Question

1999-03-11 Thread Graham Lillico +44 1785 782329
Hi,

I am just about to upgrade to Slink and I was wondering what MTA would
be the best to use to allow me to do the following.

1. Send and receive local intranet mail from my servers.
2. Send Remote (internet mail) so my domain would change from
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for internet mail
   only.
3. To queue internet mail until I go online.

I have tried this with Exim and sendmail without success, but as i am
going to upgrade to Slink would any other mta do the job? Any examples
would be appreciated.
