HELP! Can't get connected

1999-03-17 Thread wlovett
Used connection daemon to edit ppp files during installation Slink
basic. Program attempted to connected to Debian.org to complete
installation of packages. No go. received following display:
/etc/ppp/peers/proviver unrecognized option /dev/modem.
Entered provider with vi and changed to suggested /dev/ttyS1!, :wq'ed
and tried pon. Display was unrecognized option /dev/ttys1!.
On start up the device tty01 is detected at 16500.. if that means any
thing.
Would someone please forward me the correct /etc/ppp/peers/provider
entries, or instruct me how to reenter the ppp setup daemon. I tried to
use the rescue disk, but that does not allow any operations with out
complete installation.
Thanks, Woodrow

Question

Is there a simple way to load the i386 package from a DOS file:
\potato\Conten~1.gz by the dselect functions in the Linux system.

Where to now?

1999-03-12 Thread wlovett

I installed Debian, and it dropped me into deselect. Deselect what?
Is the question? Are the packages additional software that needs to be
down loaded or is it talking about software included within the distribution.
I installed from floppies; I could not get the loadlin program to work
for DOS.
Are the floppies that the deselect program is talking about the
same installation floppies. What gives? I have read the documentation;
maybe I have the name Woodrow for reason.
Thanks in advance,

Installation methode

1999-03-11 Thread wlovett
I was looking though the readme files namely the 'dselect', I read that
the method of I had chosen was one of the less desire. I had placed
every thing in a directory on my DOS Partition, and was ready to go.
In the section on floppies it states that a Zip would be better. I have
a parport Imation 120 Zip. Does the rescue disk 1440 have the drivers
for the Zip? In the event that the disk does have the necessary drivers,
do I just raw copy the Debian to the Zip in Windows 98?
I am new to Linux. I have down loaded up Ramlinux from my DOS Partition
using loadlin, and tested it in expectation of loading Debian that way.
I have loaded Cramdisk2_04MB_ppa, but the program can't find the Zip.
One last question, I use Flips to partition my hard drive into two main
sections, during installation will i be able to set up the other
partition for root, usr and swap?
