happen most when I open a pdf in evince. Then the following happens.
- evince starts up, buttons, window bar etc. show up correctly
- pdf doesn't get rendered

switching to virtual terminal 8 (but not those = 7) using ctrl+alt+f8.

several times faster and the work around is of no help (mplayer (a movie
