I have a slightly strange data point to add. I run into this problem
when I suspend to disk while on AC power and resume on battery. This
is not to say that it only happens in this case but if I suspend while
on battery

Unlike the original submitter, I am using the official packages. The
problem description is exactly as described.
While it is not a big deal, I like using the window title to display
full paths so that I know where I am.

I just upgraded to the above version I have the same problem as
Javier. All his observations are what I see as well.
Removing ctrl:swapcaps from xorg.conf helps, but when I move the
position of the control key using GNOME's
