Sebastien, the bug #23198 was reported on 2005-10-04. I had NOT had this
issue in Intrepid (which was released more later, as you know). For me,
this issue appears on Jaunty. Are you really sure this bugreport
the issue is a known bug in intrepid but should be fixed in jaunty,
closing the bug, you can reopen if you still get the issue after upgrade

This sounds like a composite/overlay issue, and as such I don't think
there's a good resolution when the driver is propitiatory.

For me it is not an issue at this right moment, as I am on Debian 5.0. I
have been on Intrepid for a while after it became stable in October and
also didn't encounter this issue anymore.

Hi together,
since the thread started with an Thinkpad R31 with i830M graphics
chipset and I am fiddeling arround with this issue for a long time and
found only ONE stable solution. So I just like to add my xorg.conf for
this older chipset running on Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex / 8.10:
