So I tested.
After I got the 'will hibernate in a bit unless you plug in' message, I
suspended. Then plugged in power, and resumed. The laptop went on its
merry way, and did not give me any funny stuff. So that's good. This
means the upstream bug is fixed.

I've done some more debugging now. The case where metacity runs but
immediately exits without setting SmRestartIfRunning (which also existed
in Jaunty) is not an issue, because metacity doesn't set a restart
command - so gnome-session won't restart it unless it was autostarted

The floppy drive on my computer does not work from the file manager in
Gnome. My computer is a Dell XPS 700. It can be mounted manually from
the command line. Also, SD cards don't work either on a standard USB SD
card reader. Both work in Slackware. The

mode. I cannot get out of it either. I am considering restarting gedit,
which seems like a big hammer for such a small problem.

suspect that seahorse and gnome-keyring-manager refuse to recognize the
id_rsa file because it isn't recognized as the proper mime type. Can you

If a remote file system is mounted to the local tree, and a text file on that
remote system is double-clicked it is treated as an executable text-file, even
if the executable bit is off.
Specifically, I have mounted my web-server locally using
Synaptic/apt/dpkg kept trying to configure the package every time it was
run, and it gave the same error every time.
I'm guessing it was a HDD error. I have since completed a fresh install
of 9.04 and, obviously, don't have the problem any more.

i downloaded the source code from there but the patch

return the error i posted.
the other two files (***.diff.gz and ***.dsc) aren't patches ... am I
wrong?

denotes, this file is gzipped and needs to be decompressed prior to
patching the original source.
