Public bug reported:
Hi.
I'm really sorry if I'm making any (social) mistake by using a long
habit of reporting wishlist bugs to ubuntu the way that I do it in
Debian. Feel free to point me the correct direction of doing it the
ubuntu-way...
That being said, Ubuntu's zesty version of shotwell

I dug into the code to try and fix this, but it's a lot more complex
than it looks. If anyone wants to start digging, look at `gedit-
tab.c:248` - that's the first catch conditional. Also look at the
function getting called if that conditional passes - there's a similar
catch conditional in there.

Got same issue after an upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and the
following actions solved the problem :
sudo pam-auth-update --force
sudo vi/etc/pam.d/lightdm
=> add following lines at the end :
session required pam_loginuid.so
session required pam_systemd.so
sudo reboot
--
Second Dominik's post as not fixed. The hidden files are showing in
Nautilus on 16.04 by default and when changed back do not stay like
that.
My thanks to him, his suggested fix via Firefox Save dialog worked for
me - I have tried many of the older suggestions - including resetting
nautilus

This bug is ancient - probably it was related to changed packages on the
server since the update request was made.
However, please close it.
