Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: empathy
Currently, if an user does not have an avatar, Empathy shows their
notification bubbles without any kind of icon. This is inconsistent with
the Ubuntu chat theme that is being used in Lucid now, as this theme
shows a generic user icon in those

No login notifications should imply no login indicators
I didn't know this bug already existed, so I now properly marked Bug
495671, which I reported some time ago, as a duplicate.
I'm also assigning this bug to the Papercuts project, something that was
done in the duplicates and never contested.

Assigning this to the Papercuts project. Based on the upstream report,
it seems like patching this is quite trivial.

empathy keeps changing my status to available without my consent
The current situation is probably easy to fix, as it just involves
wrapping the call of empathy_indicator_manager_add_login_indicator in
source file empathy-main-window.c inside an if clause that reads the
user configuration for whether he wants login notifications or not.

I had an interesting experience with this bug yesterday and
feel it is relevant to mention. A friend once tried to talk to
me via Empathy, but I wasn't at the computer at the time
and didn't return before he eventually went offline. I then
turned off the computer in a rush without verifying the
I retract my previous statement: I can't consistenly reproduce it.
I just ripped two CDs and the problem didn't appear.
When it does I'll collect the requested information.

I can consistently reproduce the bug by ripping a CD with rhythmbox and
trying to use the eject button. After the ripping is done, the button
does not work even after I completely close rhythmbox, although the
eject notification bubble appears. Both lsof | grep /media and lsof |
grep /dev give me

Sebastien, but *should* login indicators be considered queued messages?
By design, they stay in the applet only for a brief period. Therefore, they are,
from what I could understand, a tool for quick reaction.
When you disable notifications, you are disabling the very thing you are
supposed to

Currently, if I uncheck the option for receiving notification bubbles
when an user appears online, I do not receive the bubbles but entries in
the indicator-applet keep appearing for a brief period. I think it's
safe to assume that if the user
