This happens consistently in my installation. It makes GIMP impossible
to use. Please let me know if I can provide any info that will help
debug the issue.

I watched what happens as the battery runs down on my ThinkPad X61.
Gnome-power-manager seems to accurately measure the remaining charge
until it reaches about 5 percent. After that, it doesn't significantly
change. Maybe whatever gpm relies on for its information isn't
reporting well…?

Jaunty. However, today X became unresponsive twice when trying to
unlock from gnome-screensaver. Whenever this happens, I cannot even
switch to a different tty to kill X. My only way out is to use the
SysRq key
