@pablomme: you described the situation very well. However, I'm not sure
we shouldn't blame Gtk as well, since usually it's not good to break an
API so badly (except for a major version). This Client Side Windows
feature is causing serious issues, on my system at least, in many
applications
At this point, I think a brainstorm discussion for this issue would be
far more suitable than a bug report...

@ Lightbreeze: are you sure? I mean, I don't really know whether this
bug can be considered as a paper-cut or even as a bug itself, but I
don't think it should be marked as 'invalid' by the reasons you
proposed. If it's a confirmed bug in nautilus, it will affect a large
number of people. Please

I've added bug #363532 to the hundredpapercuts project. It seems
strictly related to this very bug, although it describes a different
issue (_multiple_ system beeps on shutdown, affecting Ubuntu starting

Yes, that's a proper observation. BUT, we are talking about a sub-menu
containing only a list of applications, and applications are better
recognizable by using their own icons.

I definitely support Brian's idea to _group_ in a location bar all
those buttons showing the current fs path. And, if possible, we should
reduce their height sizing!

Yes, it is a really annoying issue, especially when you start a DnD operation.
The VA's proposed solution could work, but it doesn't persuade me very much.
Is there an elegant way to solve this?

Although a real fix for this issue could easily end in a complex code
re-engineering, I think we actually can patch it up in a manner that
this bug could be counted as a Paper Cut
(http://blog.davebsd.com/2009/06/03/paper-cut/):
As TM wrote back in 2004 (!):

Or, we could remove broken entries right _before_ the list shows up.
