[Bug 69541] Re: gedit cannot open any text file

2007-01-11 Thread Pieter Nagel
Why do you think that the cache was not upgraded? No good reason, just a guess. -- gedit cannot open any text file https://launchpad.net/bugs/69541 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 69541] Re: gedit cannot open any text file: Fix found

2007-01-10 Thread Pieter Nagel
Firstly, I agree with http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359837 that this is a gtk bug, not a gedit bug. A poster at the bugzilla thread said that sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/theme he was using/ fixed it for him. But on my machine, sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f

I suggest that other people who still have this bug first make backups of all icon-theme.cache files in subdirectories of /usr/share/icons before trying the workaround I posted, so the maintainers have access to the corrupt versions of those files for debugging. Re: Sebastiens question, I was

Apologies, i DO still have a backup of the broken file, attached. sudo cp icon-theme.cache.broken /usr/share/icons/gnome/icon- theme.cache breaks gedit again, and sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/gnome/ fixes it. Currently, gnome-icon-theme 2.16.0.1-0ubuntu2 is installed on my

My humble guess is that the broken icon-theme.cache I attached belongs to the previous (dapper) version of gnome-icon-theme, and that it somehow was not upgraded. -- gedit cannot open any text file https://launchpad.net/bugs/69541 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com

I reinstalled as instructed. At first, no effect. Then I restarted my X session, and the bug became a Heisenbug. The first attempt at opening a file wrote the following to the console, and started bug-buddy (it did not do so last time): ** (gedit:5473): WARNING **: Could not load spinner rest

[Bug 68044] Many missing icons in Edgy

2006-10-24 Thread Pieter Nagel
Public bug reported: There are many many icons missing in Edgy: 1) update-manager's icon in taskbar is gone (sometimes update-manager brings up a yellow balloon telling me that I need to click on its icon to reboot etc., but the arrow is pointing at a blank space where the icon should be). 2)
