I didn't know how much of this stuff had been folded in systemd, or is
affected by udev/hotplug etc :-)
In any event, I just retested and plugging the mouse into a 14.10
machine has upower show the mouse, and plugging into two different 15.04
systems will not show it (one upstart, one systemd).
The power manager plugin is greyed out so I can't add it -

nothing for almost a year. I don't see the point of me doing anything
more since Ubuntu won't address it any way other than asking again in
another year if it still happens.

I've just had it happen on a new machine that does not have a SSD. It
is a fast Core i7 with two striped hard disks (Seagate Barracuda XT) and
an Nvidia 450 video card. The gnome-settings-daemon autostart sleep fix

My machines affected were also i7. For my main machine the OS is on the
SSD while /home is on striped spinning media (similar throughput to SSD,
higher latency).
The sleep from comment #68 fixed it for me too. Looks like some sort of
race condition when loading things.

I just did a fresh install and hit this problem. I did the fresh
install due to a new SSD disk and did not experience the problem with my

My bank provides tax information via an FDF file. Internally it points
to a PDF with named fields and supplies values for the fields. It has a
text header identifying it as FDF.
It is possible to view the filled in form using the proprietary Acrobat
reader but that isn't very free software.
The best approach is to use the pdftk package. You have to download the
referenced PDF file and then do this:
$ pdftk TXFRM_1099DIV_1page.pdf fill_form tax.fdf output tax.pdf

Unchecking the setting was a really bad idea for me. After doing a

I could not reproduce the problem with an up to date Hardy as a VMWare
guest.
It would however mark the downloads as failed until mp3 codecs were
installed. I didn't need the codecs as the files are intended for an
ipod but that is a trivial matter and easily worked around.

This issue is still present in Ekiga in Gutsy (all updates applied).
After doing a hibernate, Ekiga tries to reregister on the resume and
fails (in my case it says the failure is due to a timeout). There is no
easy way of getting Ekiga to re-register (it would be nice if it tried a

ordinary password work? They are stored in a root readable file
/etc/shadow. Whatever credential switching that is done in order for
ordinary passwords to work could also be done for thinkfinger to work.

The pam keyring thing won't do him any good as it requires the gnome
keyring password to be identical to the login password.
This whole issue is also annoying for those of us who use a fingerprint
to login
pam keyring does not solve the problem. It only solves the problem if
the login password is supplied as plain text and the login password is
the same as the keyring password.
Those of us using fingerprints to login aren't supplying a plain text
password and hence get prompted. Those using other
