I was able easily to install version 44.1 as well:
$ sudo apt-get install mutter/lunar-proposed
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Selected version '44.1-0ubuntu1' (Ubuntu:23.04/lunar-proposed [amd64]) for
'mutter'

Also, FYI only, I've noticed that Firefox (snap, version 112.0.2-1, rev
2605) doesn't seem to suffer the same issue as other application
windows. I wonder why that is?
