I have this issue with Nvidia X Server Settings. I can set the refresh
rate there, but if I reboot, it returns to the auto mode (which chooses
60Hz over 144Hz).

I'm seeing this on 14.04 (Linux mint 17), 64 bit. I can't help but
remember that I've seen this bug over the years.
Two scenarios:
1) Edit|Preferences, Resources tab, Update interval is shown as 0.00, you can
adjust it, Close, then if you go back it'll be marked as 0.00 (although the
update
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I have a very similar problem. I change the update interval of the
system monitor, but when I closes the preferences dialog and then reopen
the update interval has been reset to 0.00.
