I have the same problem with Ubuntu 7.10. Almost all screensavers crash or freeze. AMD 64 3500+ with ATI Radeon X600 Pro Direct rendering active (retrieved with glxinfo | grep rendering) Compiz active with Additional effects selected. -- OpenGL Screensavers Crash
