It seems that today's upgrade of libpoppler2 ( from 0.6-0 to 0.6.2-1)
solved the problem for me.

Thank you for reporting this bug. I can confirm this behaviour on my
machine (gutsy x86, evince 2.20.1 ). Though it is annoying I would
consider it as low priority.
