The cause of this is Alacarte (menu editor) is showing a .desktop item which
has NoDisplay=true. This field specifically states this item should not have a
menu:

However, so many Ubuntu packages have NoDisplay

It doesn't work because the -f parameter expects a file after it (see
vinagre --help).
