I had the same problem, incredibly slow playback in totem. I had two
apps loaded which both use xine backends (note I wasn't trying to play
them both at the same time, just had them loaded), totem was using the
xine backend to play video, and amarok was using xine for audio. So I
looked in

Hello,
I've noticed the same problem with my fully updated ubuntu 8.04 with Totem
Movie Player 2.22.1 (Movie Player using GStreamer 0.10.18 and GNOME). I tried
gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///path/to/video
The video plays slow then as well.
The following text is displayed on the console:

I don't know if it is the same issue, but I have noticed recently
(within the last month or two) that my totem plays videos (isn't FLV
specific) at seconds per frame instead of frames per second. Using VLC
works perfectly fine, and it doesn't matter whether I am using compiz or
metacity.
Jaymon,
thanks for the report, does gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=file:///path/to/video plays the video correctly?
