Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I am a recent ubuntu convert running 8.04 Hardy Heron released April, 2008. I
use the Mozilla Firefox browser with the totem media player plugins.
I can't say the problem lies with totem. However when I attempted to play
embedded video for the first time, I was asked to download the codecs which I
did, and the video played in a new totem window. When I tried playing another
video it tried to launch in an embedded wmv window the computer screen went
black and locked up. I have to manually reboot the computer and try again and
the same thing happens.

P.S. I tried installing the bugging packages but I got errors. Again I'm a
newbie. So I am sorry I don't have more information for you.
